Begin with the outcome
Before choosing colours or worktops, decide what the finished kitchen needs to achieve. Consider cooking habits, storage, entertaining, seating, island use, lighting and how the room connects with adjacent spaces.
Create a project brief
- Current room and kitchen condition
- Desired layout
- Cabinet and appliance requirements
- Island or peninsula dimensions
- Preferred worktop material
- Target timeframe
- Budget range
- Responsibilities for plumbing, electrical and other trades
Choose the worktop early
Worktops influence sink cut-outs, hob positions, overhangs, joins and visual balance. Selecting the material early makes it easier to coordinate the rest of the kitchen specification.
Prepare for templating
Templating should be based on the actual installed layout rather than an early drawing alone. Ask your contractor when the kitchen needs to be ready and what must be completed before the measurement visit.
Use a written scope
Record materials, thickness, edge details, cut-outs, installation responsibilities, access arrangements and any exclusions. A clear scope makes quotes easier to compare and gives the project team a shared reference.
When your brief is ready, request a kitchen project consultation.
